Yo, just a quick update on the progress of the shop...
Our stickers are scheduled to arrive within the next few days, let us know if you want some! They're free for you, we just appreciate any help getting our name out there. Like us on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Shaf-Board/222296297833418 (if you haven't already) and send your address to cary@shafboard,com...we'll get them to you asap via usps. Stick them everywhere!
The final piece we need to complete the boards arrives tomorrow. This means the first board will officially be created and will be ready to ride by this time next week. So exciting! Our goal is to be able to test the board by Satuday the 28th (our future pro snowboarder Carson's 1st birthday) at Seven Springs here in PA. We will be sure to let you know how it goes.
Also, we are working on our official website http://www.shafboard.com/, it's still waay under construction but take a look anyway.
Thanks everyone, all of your support is much appreciated!

veneer-ial
We recently wrapped up work on a wood veneer top sheet. Everything is finally coming together! Our goal has always been to build beautiful and simple snowboards. It's important to us to stand out from the crowd by creating boards that look like pieces of art. We want the Shaf Board you ride to be the center of attention on that long chairlift ride to the summit...

Long time no see
Hey everyone, it's been a good couple of months since we posted last. The crazy holiday season got the best of us, especially since it was our son Carson's first Christmas! Progress has been steady despise the lack of blog posts. Our first official Shaf Board is basically completed, just needs a few finishing touches. Pictures will be up soon, we promise! Working on getting shafboard.com up and running as well. A small exciting thing though, business cards have been ordered with the finalized logo:
What so you think?
Make sure to follow us on twitter @shafboard and stay tuned for board pics in the next few days. Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! Time to get back to business.

laid back (with my mind on the snow and the snow on my mind)
Hey yinz, been a minute since our last post but only because we have been hard at work planning and creating. We ordered and received some excellent materials to try new designs/colors, very stoked about this. Pics to come soon. (wait till you see the colors..awesome. One blue is so vibrant it reminds me of the sky above the mountains in Denver)
As a little side post, we decided to try to go about explaining WHY we are doing this, dropping everything and taking a risk on this hair brained idea. This is for everyone that has ever worked for "the Man" or has found themselves spacing out at work on a screensaver of snowy peaks counting the days until your winter vacation or the first snow fall. We are doing this for you and want to be a part of making it easier to get out there. Out of the florescent lit office, away from phones, emails, pressures of everyday living and into the sun and snow. No bills to pay, no errands to run, no one telling you what to do or where to be. The only decisions to make are: which trail to drop in on next, what playlist to listen to, to bomb it or carve it, and when to head to the lodge to get a hot chocolate/beer.
Being on the mountain is all about the fresh air, the beautiful views, hanging with your friends, laughing, falling on your ass and getting right back up and trying again. I don't know about you, but there are not many things in our lives these days that we can say we are motivated to work hard at, perfect our skills at, and most of all to be proud of how far we've come with practice.
This is what we're about and we want you to love it too.
Give us some feedback if you have any.
Last question...have you ever called out sick to go snowboarding?
Yes? So have we.
No? Buy a Shafboard and make sure you have sick time.

Our thang.
We have been working on putting together our base philosophy for Shaf Board so you folks know what we are trying to do here. The final draft is written in scrawled pencil on lined paper with many crossed out words and eraser marks, but here is what we came up with so far:
Shaf Board is about mantaining a local attitude. We have a firm belief in riding local mountains, local communities with local riders and what we will call "local stoke". We are stoked on making handbuilt boards and will not discriminate against beginner or advanced, male or female, young or old. Regardless of your skill level and age, we want you to ride boards that you feel comfortable with and are well made. We will help you find the board that feels and looks right to you. If we don't have it, we will work together to build it.
Our vision is to build the best boards with an emphasis on environmental sustainability. Shaf Board will use pine resin based epoxy, bamboo wood cores and recycled steel edging and plastics. We'll find ways to minimize our waste materials and packaging will be minimal and consumer recyclable. Basically, we will seek a balance between performance and our responsibility to the earth.
So that's what we are going for. Please! Leave us any feedback you may have. Winter is coming...
Thanks y'all.
PS: Fran Kelly I hope you know this winter you will be one of our test drivers. Support your kids.

there is sawdust on my laundry.
The factory (um, basement..) of Shaf Board has been hard at work. We are crafting our boards to be eco-friendly in addition to being kick ass to ride, a difficult combination.
Question for all you snowboard kids out there that live in the upstate NY region: where do you get your gear/boards? Would you be interested in a shop in the Saratoga area?
Please let is know, feedback is so much appreciated. Shafboards@gmail.com
Cheers.

benched
As a side project, Cary has been working on our first piece of furniture for the shop. It's a bench made out of his old snowboard. We plan to have as many used boards as we can re-purposed into furniture. If anyone wants to get rid of any unwanted boards getting dusty in your garage, let us know.. we'll take them and pay shipping! (and maybe give you a discount on a brand spanking new board made by yours truly..hmm..)
Anyhoo, here's a little preview of the bench, it's not quite finished (I will post pics when it's done) but at least this gives you an idea about what our logo will look like and the overall feel we are going for in the shop.

Let's do this.
This blog will be about Shaf Board's progress as we start from a crazy idea and turn into a real company. I will be blogging our ups and downs and hopefully be able to get some pictures up of the boards being made, our shop (eventually) etc etc. We are quite sure this is going to be a long and uphill journey full of trial and error... we hope you can take the ride with us (on a Shaf board)
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm - Emerson
We're pretty enthusiastic.
