Our thang.

We have been working on putting together our base philosophy for Shaf Board so you folks know what we are trying to do here. The final draft is written in scrawled pencil on lined paper with many crossed out words and eraser marks, but here is what we came up with so far:

Shaf Board is about mantaining a local attitude. We have a firm belief in riding local mountains, local communities with  local riders and what we will call "local stoke". We are stoked on making handbuilt boards and will not discriminate against beginner or advanced, male or female, young or old. Regardless of your skill level and age, we want you to ride boards that you feel comfortable with and are well made.  We will help you find the board that feels and looks right to you. If we don't have it, we will work together to build it.
Our vision is to build the best boards with an emphasis on environmental sustainability. Shaf Board will use pine resin based epoxy, bamboo wood cores and recycled steel edging and plastics. We'll find ways to minimize our waste materials and packaging will be minimal and consumer recyclable. Basically, we will seek a balance between performance and our responsibility to the earth.

So that's what we are going for. Please! Leave us any feedback you may have. Winter is coming...

Thanks y'all.

PS: Fran Kelly I hope you know this winter you will be one of our test drivers. Support your kids.

there is sawdust on my laundry.

The factory (um, basement..) of Shaf Board has been hard at work. We are crafting our boards to be eco-friendly in addition to being kick ass to ride, a difficult combination.

Question for all you snowboard kids out there that live in the upstate NY region: where do you get your gear/boards? Would you be interested in a shop in the Saratoga area?

Please let is know, feedback is so much appreciated. Shafboards@gmail.com

Cheers.

Shaf Board officially now has a twitter and facebook page. We already have 1 "like" on facebook and it's awesome.

Thanks Mom.

benched

As a side project, Cary has been working on our first piece of furniture for the shop. It's a bench made out of his old snowboard. We plan to have as many used boards as we can re-purposed into furniture. If anyone wants to get rid of any unwanted boards getting dusty in your garage, let us know.. we'll take them and pay shipping! (and maybe give you a discount on a brand spanking new board made by yours truly..hmm..)

Anyhoo, here's a little preview of the bench, it's not quite finished (I will post pics when it's done) but at least this gives you an idea about what our logo will look like and the overall feel we are going for in the shop.

Stay tuned kids, the journey has begun.

Let's do this.

This blog will be about Shaf Board's progress as we start from a crazy idea and turn into a real company. I will be blogging our ups and downs and hopefully be able to get some pictures up of the boards being made, our shop (eventually) etc etc. We are quite sure this is going to be a long and uphill journey full of trial and error... we hope you can take the ride with us (on a Shaf board)

We're pretty enthusiastic.
